C25 "Miam Pizza"

A new project: the making of a C25 Pizza Van. When I'm in France,
I'm always surprised by the inventiveness of the French coachbuilders.
I'm specially interested in transformations of vans.
Over time, I've seen many Citroëns, converted into Pizza Vans. I want
to do something like that, although I do not have a special example.
I'll have be to creative this time, putting all my impressions into one model.
Here's a picture of a nice van (with nice people in it) somewhere in
France. I'll be using some elements from this car. I will not copy the
back end of the car, I'll want to leave the C25 in its original shape.

Un nouveau projet: la fabrication d’un C25 pizzeria ambulante.
Quand je suis en France je suis toujours surprise par l’ingéniosité des
carrossiers français. Je suis tout particulièrement enthousiasmé par les
transformations de fourgons.
Plusieurs fois j’ai vu des fourgons Citroën convertis en pizzerias
ambulantes. Je veux reproduire quelque chose dans ce genre mais je n’ai
pas d’exemple bien concret. Il va me falloir faire preuve d’imagination et
créer un model à partir des souvenirs.
Voici une photo d’un beau fourgon (avec de gentilles gens dedans) quelque
part en France. Je vais m’inspirer de certains éléments de ce fourgon mais
je ne vais pas reproduire l’arrière tel quel. Je veut laisser mon C25 dans
son état original.

I'll be starting with a 1:43 model from NZG. NZG made two versions
of the Ducato/J5/C25. I'll be using this series I. It came very cheap,
say 10 euro.

Je suis parti d’un model NZG au 1-43e. NZG faisait deux versions du
Ducato/J5/C25. J’ai utilisé un model de la 1e série. C'était très bon
'marché', environ € 10,00.

The only difference (as far as we modellists are concerned) between a
Citroën C25, a Peugeot J5 and a Fiat Ducato is the grille. Unlike
the others, the C25 has the indicators above the headlights.
The grille can easily be turned around. Removing the Fiat logo is
another thing.
First I cut off the the 5 stripes using a sharp knife.
Next, the last remains of the Fiat-logo are removed with a special tool
(works like a saw, meant to repair tiny screws, my optician gave it to
me).

La seule différence (en ce qui nous concerne, nous les modélistes)
entre le Citroën , le Peugeot J5 et le Fiat Ducato c’est la calandre. Au
contraire des deux autres, la calandre du C25 avait les clignotants au
dessus des phares. La calandre peut être aisément retournée. L’élimination
du logo Fiat est une autre paire de manches. D’abords j’ai enlevé les cinq
barrettes du logo Fiat avec un cutter. Ensuite les derniers restant du
logo Fiat ont été effacés à l’aide d’un outil spécial (utilise par les
opticiens pour réparer les petites vis) et qui s’utilise comme une scie.
Le mien m’a été offert par mon opticien.

Here's the result of changing the grille. Looks much better, don't you
think? I did the same trick with the blue model, which is not (yet) to
be transformed.

Et voilà le résultat après le changement de calandre. C’est beaucoup
mieux ne pensez vous pas ? J’ai fait la même chose avec le modèle bleue a
droite qui n’est ( encore) transformé.

The next phase is to dismantle the model and strip the paint off. The
hinges of the doors are removed, no need to be able to open any doors.
|
L’étape suivante consiste à démonter la miniature et de la décaper pour
ôter la peinture. Les charnières des portes ont été supprimées. Mon modèle
ne nécessite pas de portes ouvrantes.

Did some sawing today....
....and put some parts in place. The white beams are temporary supports
to hold the cut-off door in place, while the glue is drying.

J’ai un peu scié aujourd’hui… et mis quelques pièces en place. Les tiges
blanches soutiennent la demi porte pendant que la colle sèche. |

30-03-2007:
At last an update.
I have closed the back end of the van with some pieces of plastic
(leftovers). The doors are to be glued onto this.
On the left side of the van I've added a kitchen sink, with tiles
above. And I've made a fridge.
On the right side I'll make another cupboard (or something similar).

Une dernière mise à jour.
J’ai fermé l’arrière du fourgon avec une feuille de plastique et j’ai
collé les portes dessus.
Sur le coté gauche du fourgon j’ai installé une cuisine avec du carrelage
sur la parois. J’ai fabrique un réfrigérateur et de l’autre coté un
placard.

As you can see on the picture above, the side of the car opens from the
top. So some additional sawing is necessary.
As you can see I've also added the right side of the interior. A
transparent cooled showcase will have to be added after painting the
model.
The tap is made out of some copper rod, the sink is the metal top of a
ballpoint pen.

Comme vous pouvez voir sur la photo ci-dessus, le coté du fourgon s’ouvre
juste sous l’arête du toit. Il va falloir scier un peu.
Vous pouvez aussi constater que j’ai ajouté le coté droit de l’aménagement
intérieur. Une vitrine réfrigérée prendra place sur le devant.et sera
fixée après la peinture de la miniature.
Le robinet est fait en fil de cuivre et le bouchon métallique d’un stylo
bille fait office d’evier.

07-05-2007:
I've made a hatch and attached it to the roof. Than the entire body is
painted with white primer. I did that because after putting the roof
onto the body it will be difficult to spray the paint in the interior.

J’ai fait un volet que j’ai fixé au toit. Ensuite j’ai peint toute la
carrosserie en apprêt blanc, ceci cause de l’impossibilité de peindre
l’intérieur après l’ installation du toit sur la carrosserie.

Next phase is to attach the roof onto the body. The reardoors are put in
place. All gaps between the roof and the body, and between the reardoors
are filled with putty.
|
Etape suivante. J’ai monté le toit sur la carrosserie. Les portes
arrières sont mises en place et tous les jours entre les portes en la
carrosserie ont été bouchés au mastic.

Once, on vacation in France, I made a photograph of a pizza-box. After
eating the pizza, I've folded the box open, put it flat-out on the
ground, and click. Done some photoshopping as well.

avoir dégusté la pizza j’ai déployé la boite et l’ai prise en photo sur le
sol. Et Clic-clac encore du photoshopping en perspective.

I've printed out 1:43 scale versions of this box, folded them like the
original and voilà. You can see them on the model, which was put in
primer again.
|
J’ai imprimé la version au 1-43e de cette boite, l’ai plié comme la
vraie et voilà ! Vous pouver l’admirer, posée sur mon modèle que j’ai de
nouveau passé à l’ apprêt.

painted.

Of course I need some 1:43 scale pizza's! They are not for sale, so I've
made them myself using milliput and Humbrol-paint. Don't they look appetising...?
My favorite: with fresh peppers and cheese :-)

Bien sûr il me faut plusieurs Pizza au 1-43e! Mais elles ne sont pas
commercialisées, il m’a fallut donc les faire moi-même à l’aide Milliput
et de peinture Humbrol. Ne sont elles pas appétissantes ? Ma favorite est
aux poivrons frais avec du fromage :-)

30-05-2007:
The oven in the van is made of a piece of plastic, with a decal. First I
have searched the web for a picture of a brick wall and of a fireplace.
In Photoshop I have combined these pictures into a real oven; added some
sootmarks. The font used for the words "Miam Pizza" happend to
be my own computer. The font is called: Staccato555 BT. All the
decals were designed by me and were printed out by Fokko (thanks again,
Fokko!!)

Le four dans le fourgon est fait en carte plastique et habillé d’un
décalque. J’ai cherché sur internet une image d’un mur en brique et d’un
feu. A l’aide de Photoshop j’ai combiné les deux images pour reproduire
un four réaliste. J’ai ajouté sur la carrosserie des marquages fait sur
mon ordinateur en utilisant la police « Staccato555BT ». J’ai créé
toutes les décalcomanies qui ont été imprimées par Fokko. (Merci encore
Fokko !!)

Here you can see the result. On the roof I've added a chimney and two
air-vents, as well as a skylight. The showcase is made of some pieces of
transparant plastic and filled with cheese, sausages and vegetables,
made of Milliput. Some pizzaboxes are placed on the counter, the pizzas
the chef is still working on are waiting on the worktop. The pricelist
will tell you what they will cost....

Admirez le résultat. J’ai ajouté une cheminée et deux aérateurs sur le
toit ainsi qu’un lanterneau. La vitrine est faite en plastique
transparent et garnie de fromages, saucisses et légumes fait en
Milliput. Plusieurs boites de pizza sont empilées sur le comptoir.
Tandis que quelques pizza attendent sur le plan de travail d’être
enfournée. La liste des prix vous indique ce que vous pouvez commander.
